Sports Injuries

The power of effective sports injury care

High school, college and professionals athletes, weekend warrior and other exercise enthusiast all share two common goals: preventing injury and recovering quickly.

Sports injuries are often thought of as injuries that only occur as a result of participating in professional or school sports. Yet, over 30 million children and young adults between the ages of 6 and 21 engage in out of school sports programs. Approximately 95% of sports injuries are due to minor trauma involving soft tissue injuries: contusions, muscle pulls, sprains, strains and cuts or abrasions. The other 5% are due to major trauma, which can result in dislocations, factures, stress fractures, tears in cartilage, muscle, tendon and ligaments, and head, neck, shoulder and spine injuries.

Injuries can occur as a result of compression forces such as falls and collisions; tension forces such a traction or hanging movements, shearing forces such as throwing motions, twisting and repetitive motion trauma.

The power of board certified sports injury care

Athletes come in all shapes, sizes and ages. Even sports performed after proper warm up and with the right equipment can still result in:

  • Knee injuries (ACL, MCL, patellar, meniscal)
  • Shoulder injuries (rotator cuff, impingement)
  • Back and neck pain and strains
  • Elbow injuries
  • Wrist injuries
  • Hip injuries
  • Ankle injuries

At the Kozmary Center for Pain Management, our mission is to identify, correct and alleviate acute or prolonged musculoskeletal or neurological dysfunction. The first step is to assess the patient to ensure that treatment is effective, accurate, evidence-based, reliable and appropriate for patient’s conditions. This includes a thorough evaluation.

The importance of early treatment

A traumatic sports injury can result in a torn ligament or muscle. When this happens, the message that a part of the body needs protection may be received inaccurately, leading to a body mechanics and loss of coordination. The longer an athlete stays out of training after an injury, the hard it is for the body to recover. That’s why early treatment rehabilitation is vital to a full recovery.

We typically begin treatment with therapies that reduce pain, inflammation and swelling. Additionally, we work closely with some of the most talented physical therapists in the area, so patients receive continuity of care. At the Kozmary Center for Pain Management, you’ll find everything for compassionate, effective sports injury care right here in Las Vegas.
